Quality Control Should Follow the Approved Product

A generic “quality checked” statement is not enough. The inspection plan should be tied to the buyer’s approved sample, specification, packaging and measurable acceptance points.

When Laboratory Testing Adds Value

Visual inspection cannot prove every property. Where required, testing can provide objective evidence for material or performance characteristics.

  • Fibre composition / material confirmation
  • GSM or weight-related checks
  • Colour fastness to wash or rubbing
  • Dimensional stability / shrinkage
  • Pilling or abrasion where relevant
  • Seam, tensile or construction performance
  • Buyer- or market-specific chemical/performance tests

The test method, sample selection and acceptance criteria should be agreed before testing. See also product testing coordination.

Inspection Questions

What do you check during a home textile inspection?

The checklist depends on the product and buyer requirement. Common checks include dimensions, construction, fabric or yarn, weight/GSM, shade, print or weave appearance, stitching, workmanship, backing or filling, labels, packing and quantity.

Do all home textile products use the same inspection checklist?

No. Bedsheets, rugs, bathmats, cushions, blankets and bags have different functional and construction risks, so the inspection points should be category-specific.

Can laboratory testing be coordinated?

Yes. Where the buyer or destination market requires objective performance data, samples can be coordinated with an appropriate laboratory for agreed tests.

When should quality requirements be defined?

Before quotation and sampling wherever possible. It is much easier to control a measurable requirement that was included in the brief than to add it after bulk production has started.
